IHSPA seeks to identify and acknowledge emerging talent in newspaper, yearbook and digital media students in member high schools in grades 9, 10 and 11. These students will be the backbone of your school future publications for next year.

The honor is open to 9th through 11th grade students. Each adviser may nominate three per publication. If an adviser supports two publications then three per publication – three for newspaper and three for yearbook. If an adviser only supports one publication than three nominees.

Requirements:

  • Submit 3 examples of work.
  • Newspaper, Yearbook, and Digital Media all apply.
  • 1 Letter of Recommendation from the Adviser

This work must be submitted online and using PDFs or links.

All work must have been published or posted between – March 14, 2015 and March 6, 2016 by current students at IHSPA member schools.

All nominees will be acknowledged by a certificate.

Ten Emerging Journalists will be selected based on on overall quality of work, impact on your school and community, understanding of the fundamentals of journalism, and experimentation.

The ten Emerging Journalists will be offered a $100 scholarship toward the cost to attend the 2016 University of Iowa Summer Journalism Workshops for High School students.
