Waterloo West continues to follow its school board – one of the most important jobs of journalism – watch dog the government. This time it was Knya Dellit accompanied by photographer Jayna Gomez. Budget cuts make for good animative photos and Jayna captured emotions. Even a 10-year-old spoke at the meeting! Coupled with Knya’s story and collection of quotes in an infographic, the story shows how difficult it is to cut the budget. Check out her story here.

The Iowa High School Press Association created the Story & Photo of the Month contest for a chance for students to be featured on our social media. Students can submit a link to their best timely photos and stories to be entered in to the monthly contest. At the end of the month, IHSPA chooses a story and a photo to post on our Instagram, Facebook, and website
