Pin awarded to top 10 Emerging Journalists

IHSPA seeks to identify and acknowledge emerging talent in newspaper, yearbook, and digital media students in member high schools. The opportunity is open to students in 9th, 10th, or 11th grade. These students will be the backbone of their respective schools’ publications for the upcoming year.

Each adviser may nominate three students per publication: If an adviser supports two publications, then six students may be nominated total, as long as there are only three nominations for each publication (three for newspaper, and three for yearbook).

Requirements:

  • Submit 3 examples of work — Newspaper, Yearbook, and Digital Media all apply.
  • Submit 1 Letter of Recommendation from the Adviser
  • Resume
  • Work must be submitted online using PDFs or links.
  • All work must have been published or posted between March 6, 2017 and March 5, 2018 by current students at IHSPA member schools.

All nominees will be acknowledged by a certificate.

Ten Emerging Journalists will be selected based on the overall quality of their work, the impact on their school and community, the students’ understanding of the fundamentals of journalism, and the level of experimentation.

The ten Emerging Journalists will be offered a $100 scholarship toward the cost of attending the 2018 University of Iowa Summer Journalism Workshops for High School students.

Deadline is March 5, 2018
