Adel’s Devin Morey and Sylvia Reynolds’ take on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert Series with their own Compact Corner Concert featuring Looza Palooza, honestly, was enough to take the January crown. The reporting duo captured the fun the band has poking fun at itself starting with its name. An alternative rock band playing Adel’s Hay Day also makes us chuckle. In a good way. You can check out Devin and Sylvia’s article and their Compact Corner Concert here.

Iowa City West’s Waad Dafalla, Sophie Singh, Gracie Liu and Sonya Zhu interviewed a slew of people about overconsumption. We lost count at six. A university professor, a high school teacher and … students! Students talked about how they bought fad items and then didn’t use them and threw them away or donated them. One talked about deciding to buy more expensive items because they didn’t like the way a cheaper company treated workers and used plastic materials. The four reporters did a great job taking a lot of information and synthesizing it. You can read their article here. This story also earned from a Best of SNO showcase.

The Iowa High School Press Association created a new contest, Story & Photo of the Month, for a chance for students to be featured on our social media. Students can submit a link to their best timely photos and stories to be entered into the monthly contest. At the end of the month, IHSPA chooses a story and a photo to post on our Instagram, Facebook, and website.
